  • As Regards Democracy Changes In Pakistan

From a letter by Ms Samina Parvez,Press Counsellor,Pakistan High Commission Singapore to The Straits Times dated 20/03/09

[ I refer to Wednesday's editorial,"Grim for Pakistan as rivals contend."I find it surprising for a Singapore daily to take deep interest in Pakistan's domestic politics.

True, democracy in Pakistan is facing teething problems especially after a prolonged political vacumn. The reinstatement of the judges should be seen as a strengthening of the pillars of democracy, which you would agree are an elected government,a strong opposition,an independent judiciary and a formidable army in the barracks.

The editorial reflects the significance of these but with a preconceived notion that these are probably not in Pakistan's interest.I wish it could be judged as a positive turning point in the chequered political history of Pakistan.

Allow me to add that the interests of the Pakistani people --- jobs, law enforcement and freedom from fear --- are all the more important to strengthen them to put up with the ripples of the world's war for freedom and to be a holding line for global peace. ]

Let's take a moment to compare the political system in supposedly First World Singapore against the political system in Pakistan(A developing nation?).

    My Score

    Democracy

Elected Government --- Half A Tick (Technically it's elected, but i remember Somebody said that he has fixed the electoral system so that his party will surely win. That makes things somewhat more open to debate.)

A Strong Opposition --- Yes We Can (But Singaporeans must Believe In Change!)

An Independent Judiciary --- No Comments.Read my Official Statement on my court appearance of 01/04/09 for an idea of what i think. http://pothepanda.xanga.com/698157599/officialjudge-informs-that-iskander-tang-has-been-placed-under-detention/

A Formidable Army In The Barracks --- Formidable in Hardware, but Civilian Government keeps eroding the Psychological Defence of our SAF soldiers.Without Psychological Defence, the armed forces will surrender without a fight.

    Interests Of The People

Jobs --- Jobs For Foreigners,NS For Sinkees (And all covered by the supposed system of Meritocracy)

Law Enforcement --- One law for the rich and politically connected, and One law for the common man.

    Freedom From Fear --- ROFLMAO.IN SINGAPORE?Lim Kopi anyone? http://pothepanda.xanga.com/695543424/officialpothepanda-statement-on-cidisd-lim-kopi-session-020309/

Choose wisely the way you want to live, and the way you want your future generations to live.

    YES WE CAN!
